Who are we?
A desire to live differently...
After decades in business, we were looking for a place to develop a bed and breakfast business.
Lovers of good products, we have always appreciated the coasts of Meuse where we have always found good surprises.
After two years of long research, an advert put us in a state of excitement. At the first visit, we knew that this was the house we were waiting for and that it was also made for us. Isabelle and Gilles, the former owners, left us a house bathed in the architectural style we love and with the values we defend.
April 2020, in the midst of global turmoil, we are finally in the boot.
We want to share with our guests our ecological conviction and offer a moment of zenitude. To do this, we are working on the major concepts of ecology:
- a habitat integrated into its environment with respect for architectural rules.
Our environmental commitments
The house
- wood-frame partitions
- the use of ecological insulation, furnishing and decoration materials
- the preservation of woodwork (doors, cupboards, floors) and stone (sink and fireplace)
- a wood-burning stove
- double-glazed wooden windows made in the Vosges
- low-energy lighting and water-saving devices
- skylights
- the involvement of local craftsmen
Exterior
- a parking lot that does not impact the visual aspect of the surroundings, nor the views from the house
- diversified spaces that encourage relaxation, intimacy and access to nature
- planting of local plants that respect the heritage character of the Lorraine villages
- rustic lawns and flowery meadows to increase biodiversity
- small facilities for wildlife
An eco-responsible life
- composting, waste sorting, organic gardening, rainwater recovery for watering
- promoting soft mobility: loan of our bikes and our garage to store yours
- purchase of linen from "LINVOSGES", and pillows from "DODO" (Lorraine companies), - high quality beds, made in France (wool, flax, castor, sunflower)
- maintenance of the house in a healthy and ecological way
- consumption and promotion of local farm products, garden and homemade
- membership in an organic AMAP (Association pour le Maintien d'une Agriculture Paysan)
The renovation
The style of the house:
"It is a manor house, typical of the Côtes de Meuse, with modest, sober and uncluttered architecture, presenting a simple and rigorous character" Source of the CAUE of the Meuse (Council of Architecture, Urbanism and Environment).
We wanted it to respect its authentic origin, with simple decoration and a few original but tasteful touches. We invested in comfort (thermal and sound insulation, internet connection) but also in the quality of materials.
Renovation work:
Most of the renovation work was carried out using natural and healthy materials with a view to sustainable development:
- choice of insulation materials (cellulose wadding, wood fibre)
- wooden double-glazed doors and windows
- wood-frame partitions
- removal of cement rendering and application of lime rendering by local companies, while preserving the existing features (Lorraine fireplace, water stone, woodwork, floors, exposed stones).
We have obtained the mark VALEURS PARC NATUREL REGIONAL
We are committed to working with the Lorraine Regional Nature Park to find a balance between the protection of our rich but fragile countryside and human activity. We contribute to the sustainable development of our territory to allow you to discover the best it has to offer!
